Practicum/Externship

We are a field-placement (extern) training site as part of an agreement between the Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health (LAC DMH) Student Professional Development Program and various local educational programs.  These educational programs are designated as Affiliated Training Partners and have current training agreements in place with LAC DMH.  Our practicum program only accepts students from programs that are identified as Affiliated Training Partners AND are APA accredited programs in good standing.

Application to our practicum program is through the training directors’ offices at the educational institutions.  Only training director approved applications are forwarded to us for review.

Upon receiving the approval from their training directors’ and submission of approved  applications, students may initiate contact with the specified track supervisor.  All students undertaking practica at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center are required to be registered with the LAC DMH Student Professional Development Program, which will require a Live Scan.  Students are also required to have a National Provider Identification (NPI) number prior to beginning their training at Harbor-UCLA.

The program year starts the beginning of September and ends August 15th.  Hours per week on site run between 12 to 20 hours; the specific days and times vary by track.  Please use the links below to view details of a specific track.
